CamelCamelCamel is a website that tracks millions of items on Amazon.com and displays their price history for your deal-hunting pleasure. While Amazon often has the lowest price on any given item, their prices fluctuate (sometimes daily), meaning you can’t always assume that they have the best deal. For seasonal items – such as winter boots, holiday decorations, swimsuits, etc. – prices rise and fall with demand.

One of the best features of CamelCamelCamel is their price-drop notification tool. This allows you to set a desired price and be notified the second Amazon’s price drops below it. I’ve taken advantage of this several times, the most recent being in my hunt for an ugly Christmas sweater.

Feeling left out at last year’s Christmas party due to my lack of festive-but-horrendous apparel, I decided it was worth getting a dedicated sweater. I didn’t want to go shopping for one right then, however; all my ugly sweater parties were over for the year, and prices on holiday apparel were still high. Instead, I hopped on Amazon, found a sweater I liked, then checked the price history on CamelCamelCamel.

The above screenshot was taken today, but when I pulled it up a year ago it showed the lowest price being somewhere around $20. Since I didn’t need it until December of the following year, I set a price alert for $22.95 and moved on with my life.

Sure enough, come mid-July, I received the following email:

I hit “Buy Now,” received it two days later, and tossed it into my drawer to await the day of its grand unveiling.

If you’re in the market for something, but able to wait for a better price, check the history on CamelCamelCamel to see if you can get a better deal. It’s a simple, nearly automatic way to save money. How can you beat that?
